Frequently Asked Questions

  • Should I see a Kinesiologist?

Regular exercise is one of the most effective ways to prevent chronic illnesses and maintain good health. If you have been informed that you have risk factors for developing chronic illness, or if you are currently dealing with a chronic condition or an injury, it is important to take an active approach to achieve better outcomes.

Kinesiologists specialize in using exercise and movement science to promote health and well-being during the chronic phase of an injury or after initial healing. While they cannot diagnose, they can explain how your diagnosis affects your movement. If you are currently receiving treatment from a physician or any other allied health professional, you can ask the kinesiologists at Hyperion how their services can help support your recovery.

At Hyperion, our kinesiologists are dedicated to understanding your goals and concerns and will help you overcome your condition through movement and exercise. We offer various services tailored to your unique needs and requirements. Our experts will work with you to design a personalized exercise plan that is safe and effective to help you achieve your desired outcomes. We will also provide you with ongoing support and guidance to stay motivated and on track with your recovery journey.

  • How can exercise improve my health?

Physical activity can reduce blood pressure, improve insulin sensitivity, and lower the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. However, for individuals with chronic illnesses or those at risk of developing them, exercise can be a complex issue that requires specialized prescription and careful consideration.

At Hyperion, we specialize in exercise and lifestyle interventions for individuals with chronic illnesses or risk factors for chronic disease. We understand that everyone's needs and limitations are unique, and we take the time to customize our recommendations to their specific health conditions and goals. Our team of certified exercise physiologists can help you safely incorporate exercise into your daily routine in an effective and enjoyable way.

Whether you're looking to manage an existing chronic condition or prevent the onset of one, we can provide you with the knowledge and guidance you need to achieve your health goals. Contact us today to learn more about our exercise prescription services and how we can help you take an active role in your health.

  • Is Kinesiology the same thing as personal training

It is true that many personal trainers hold a degree in kinesiology. However, at Hyperion, our clinical kinesiologists have advanced training with a Master's degree in clinical kinesiology and exercise physiology. They also have over 20 years of experience working with various conditions, including cardiovascular disease, renal disease, neurological disease, chronic pain, and many others.

  • Are remote Kinesiology services safe and effective?

Exercise has been proven to be safe for most individuals. In certain circumstances, however, exercise may not be appropriate. At Hyperion, we will conduct a thorough pre-screening and assessment to ensure that your exercise participation is safe. Exercise participation is not without risks. Before beginning an exercise program, please consult your physician if you have concerns about how exercise may affect your conditions.

Over the last 10 years, a significant amount of research has shown that remote rehabilitation and health consultations can be as effective as in-person sessions. Furthermore, remote sessions result in a greater sense of control and self-efficacy, leading to improved outcomes. For more information, refer to Marti et al., 2021

  • Are Kinesiology services covered by my extended health plan?

It's possible that your kinesiology sessions may be covered by your insurance company or health spending account. However, it's important to note that coverage can vary between provinces and different insurance providers. To confirm whether your sessions are covered and to understand the extent of your coverage, we strongly recommend that you reach out to your insurance provider and/or employer directly. It's worth noting that we do not offer direct billing services to insurance providers at this time.
